It’s that time of year again, when the temperatures are dipping and there is a possibility of snow falling. As everyone knows, even the tiniest bit of snowfall is enough to bring Britain to a screeching halt. Since the snow will make it virtually impossible to drive anywhere, why not use your time stuck at home, or wherever you may be, to have some fun.

One way to have fun is to build a Union Jack snowman, young and old alike can join in this activity. The adults will feel good playing in the snow like children, and the children will enjoy spending time playing with the adults.

  • The first step in making a snowman is to make his body. To do this you will need to make three snow balls. The first one will be his lower body. To get started pick up a handful of snow and shape it into a ball, keep adding snow and shaping until it’s too big to hold in your hand. Once it’s too big to hold, place it on the ground and gently roll it around in the snow. It will pick up snow as you roll and continue to get bigger. Once it is the size you want roll it over to the place you have chosen to build your snowman.
  • Next start another ball in the same way, only make it a bit smaller than the first one. This will be your snowman’s mid section. Once it’s at the proper size, gently lift it and place it on top of the lower part of the body. Once that is complete, you will work on the smallest ball, this will be the head. Follow the same procedure and place on top of the mid section of your snowman.
  • The next step is the most fun, you will now give your snowman some personality. You may have to run into the house to find items you will need. A beanie hat to place on top of your snowman’s head. Two Patriotic hand flags to use for your snowman’s arms. Two badges for his eyes, a flashing nose and a scarf to put around his neck. Be sure everything is in Patriotic colours so your snowman can show his pride for his country while he is outside proudly standing guard in your yard.

Snow can be a lot of fun, as long as you don’t have to go out and drive in it. The next time you see flakes falling, instead of being filled with dread, think about getting outside and making your own Union Jack Snowman. Once he is finished, you can come back inside, your cosy warm house, to drink some hot chocolate and look out your window to admire your work.
