Annie Lennox was a Scottish legend with high dedication to music. She was born on a beautiful Christmas day in Aberdeen in the year 1954. Since her childhood, she was highly talented in music. Her childhood had so many misfortunes and shortcomings and she never surrendered to that while having a piano lesson. This made her very ebullient and ambitious female singer. She contributed her golden voice for the first time at Butlins holiday camp in the year 1964.

With the help of her friend David A Stewart, she became an international success as a part of Duo Eurythmics in 1980s. It represents new nuance and it has a great influence on the music lovers. Their first album was launched in 1981 after one year preparation.

Moreover, in the Brit awards she wore a union jack suit and that had become her unique style. The union jack suit raised the nationalism and the style of the suit resembled as the UK flag.

Ever since Spice Girl Geri Halliwell debuted her iconic Union Jack dress at the 1997 BRIT Awards, we’ve all been living in a different world. One might even call it a Spice World. Regardless, Geri’s dress has remained her trademark and is forever associated with her time as a Spice Girl.

Debut

Because she was dissatisfied by the black Gucci dress that she was originally given to wear for the awards show, Geri had her sister make the flag cum outfit. In a move that placed the finery of the Italian clothiers against the historical might of the Union Jack, Geri chose to express her pride in being British and transformed the Spice Girls from a bright and shining pop fad into a bright and shining pop fad with an instantly memorable dress. The outfit cemented the Spice Girls in the popular memory.

Auction

Wishing to distance herself from her “Girl Power” image after the wane of the Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell auctioned off the dress in 1998 at Sotheby’s for the price of £41,320. The proceeds were given to charity and the dress itself was put on display. The end of a clothing era was apparently at hand. But, as would become apparent, old dresses never die. They just get remade.

Rebirth in Reunion

In 2007, the Union Jack dress returned during the Spice Girls reunion tour. Since Geri was unable to buy back the original dress, she had it remade. This dress was not quite the same as the original, as it was longer and featured rhinestones and Swarovski crystals. However, it still retained its iconic aspects and became a centrepiece of the tour.

The Dress Immortalised

In May 2010, the dress was voted the most iconic dress of the last 50 years in a poll run by Offers Supermarket. The dress, which gained 82% of the on-line vote beat out such popular outfits as Liz Hurley’s Versace safety pin dress, Audrey Hepburn’s outfit from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Princess Diana’s wedding dress. It goes to prove that the Union Jack and dresses made from it are eternal.
